Junior Infants 2026-27

First Days of Junior Infants

Welcome to Junior Infants! The children have all settled in so well and we have had a great first few weeks together playing games, singing, dancing, doing work and making arts and crafts. Take a look at our first photos together and all the fun we've been having!
Autumn

In October we learned all about Autumn and the hibernating animals. We made hedgehogs out of playdoh and clay. We also cut and paste the spikes on the 2D hedgehogs and decorated the squirrels bushy tail with crumpled crepe paper. We painted handprint autumn leaves and cut and paste scarecrows! We did autumn counting too and I Spy. We got to explore the nature trough with leaves and conkers and make leaf rubbings with crayons. We listened to the story "Don't Hog the Hedge" and acted it out in small groups using masks and the nature trough. Another story we listened to was the story of the Scarecrow's Wedding. We also went on our sponsored walk and had lots of fun exploring the school garden!
In September, we learned about our homes and houses! We cut and paste 2D houses which we laminated and put in a tub of soil where we planted some cress seeds for the grass in our garden! We made 2D houses with lolly sticks and 3D houses with magnetic tiles and Lego blocks. We even painted our very own A3 houses. We discussed the different rooms in our house and the different furniture found there. We also listened to the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and The three Little Pigs. We acted out the story of The Three Bears with little pig and big bad wolf teddies in front of the class and made their houses using lolly sticks, crepe paper and red squares.
Happy Halloween!

For the past 2 weeks, we have been getting ready for Halloween! We painted sunsets with haunted houses and spooky silhouettes. We also made spooky stencil sponge paintings and cut and paste little witches. We played Halloween dress up and listened the story Room on the Broom, and we then took turns acting it out in front of the class. On Halloween dress up day we made chocolates sprinkle witches hats made out of cones! We had great fun. Check out all of our amazing photos!
