Our new theme is Global Citizenship for Energy
Here are some of our achievements since meeting in September:
Actions: 1. In September, nominations and elections for this year's new Green School Committee took place.
2. We re-commenced our reading electricity meter reading via Third class on a rota basis.
3. Fifth class helped design our Eco-Warrior energy badges. These
were given out to our new eco-energy warriors at Assembly.
3. The Globe Air Quality Science Project was completed by some of the 2nd Class children. GLOBE Ireland is a school-based citizen science programme within the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce. It coordinates nature-based citizen science campaigns in primary and secondary schools. GLOBE Ireland is a division of The GLOBE Programme, a global citizen science initiative sponsored by NASA and supported by NOAA and others.
This was an incredible science project
Science Experiment on Globe Air Quality- Mounting tubes in various
local areas. Removing them a month later in October 24.
We continued our commitment to our Green School initiatives. Several teachers and SNA's attended composting zoom workshops at night via Zoom. The Men's Shed will be working with the Green School Committee and Ms Doyle (SNA) and Ms O Donoghue (MLD) as soon as a date becomes available for them to visit us and help support our green garden plans in our school.
5. The Green School Committee created awareness of energy saving by giving talks at assembly and
at staff meetings via teachers. They also made sure every class had recycle bins and will be making posters for mounting near bins explaining what should and should not be in recycle bins.
6.Children will design posters in November to show what does and does not go into recycle bins.
We will continue to avoid waste by taking home our food waste for composting.
7. .Airtricity have created a Generation Green Community Fund and are giving 5 million euro for school sustainability projects to help reduce energy costs. Our Principal and Board are looking into making application to this fund on behalf of our school.
In November, we hope to do energy surveys with our school members. Some of them are pictured below.
